Get Extra Storage Space for Your Austin Apartment

From Round Rock and Cedar Park all the way up to Georgetown, down through Burnet and Hyde Park, UT and downtown, South Austin and Manchaca, you may find you need supplemental storage after you move in. Our storage team can help you beat the traffic and the heavy lift that comes with moving-related storage needs.

Rising Rents and New Construction

Like other destination cities that experience rapid growth, there’s a lack of inventory for both homes and apartments in Austin. This has jacked up the cost of rental prices in recent years. In 2015, from April to December, the average jumped an incredible 25 percent. As this MultiFamily Executive article points out, this trend didn’t stop in 2016, either, hitting a new all-time high as the rental market maintained a 94 percent occupancy rate.

Real estate developers have taken notice, as has pretty much every Austinite who’s been in the area long enough to witness the dramatic changes to the skyline. Here, too, the local rental market and real estate development isn’t done yet. Not by a long shot. As reported on by the Austin Business Journal, Oden Hughes alone is opening Lenox Boardwalk this June near the Oracle campus, Lenox Springs just off I-35 near Slaughter Ln. in late 2017, and is part of a joint venture to open a luxury apartment community near the 6th Street Whole Foods in late 2018.

New Opportunities with Shrinking Apartments

More than just increasing supply, however, developers are looking to tailor their apartment communities to the evolving demand of the Austin rental market. No doubt, a big part of this demand is upscale downtown apartments, but it’s also that affordability crunch. One way to live in Austin affordably and sustainably is to find your place in the new movement toward micro-apartments. Check out these 320 square foot apartment units in East Austin.

Best of all, high-density apartment units support local consumer businesses in a way that increases neighborhood walkability. Plus, since many of these households have one or no car at all, there’s less impact to the already-insane city traffic. These types of apartments also leave more room for what makes Austin so weirdly itself. Amy’s, Waterloo, Bouldin Creek, BookPeople, P.Terry’s, Vulcan Video and I Luv Video. Talk about how cool Austin used to be if you want, but there’s still a ton of local culture to protect moving forward.

And make no mistake: Apartments have an impact on their surrounding community and the cultural identity of the city as a whole. The Austonian is an amazing place to live, no doubt. We’re just saying if you go around town calling yourself an Austonian, you’re going to quickly out yourself as new to the city. We’re called Austinites.

Off-Campus Apartments for a New Kind of Student Living

Like many universities around the country, UT has looked to real estate developers and private apartments to make up for the shortage of on-campus housing. Loathe the idea of traditional dorms and looking for a more amenity-filled living experience? The Callaway House is one spot to check out.

On a slightly different note, the Castilian is a great example of the advantages that come with building up—or least as much as they allow on west campus. We talked to one former resident and UT alum about her experience. “The Castilian has parking in the building and they’re as cheap as the dorms—that’s their whole thing. And if you can get one, the corner rooms are sweet with a private bathroom.”
