Here are All the Music Festivals You Should Go to in Nashville this Spring
From country to gospel to jazz and rock and roll, Nashville is a hot hub for some of the best musical talent around. Great music is formed in Nashville as are famous musicians like Johnny Cash, Kesha, Lady Antebellum, Paramore and Miley Cyrus, whose careers are all connected to Nashville. It’s no wonder music festivals in “Music City, U.S.A.” keep coming back with an even bigger fan base than the year before. Whether you live in Nashville or just can’t resist a great music retreat, you have to check out one of these festivals this spring.
Let’s start with the Nashville Boogie Vintage Weekender, May 18-21. This annual event brings rockabilly, rock ‘n roll and western swing on five stages with musicians who perform into the wee hours of the morning. In tandem are an indoor car show, a western fashion show, vintage vendor market, pinup contest and record convention. East Coast Rockabilly Central sums up Nashville Boogie: “This event is like no other.”
Each year, Nashville Boogie brings in a vast selection of musical entertainment—veterans and newcomers—that’s sure to get your toes tapping. We counted 80 bands for this year’s lineup and it includes killer cats like Wanda Jackson, Stray Cat Lee Rocker, Bobby Bare and Nikki Lane, to name a few.
Much of the event takes place at the Gaylord Opryland Resort & Convention Center where guests can ooh and ahh over the indoor atrium—complete with a waterfall and riverboat cruise—and quaint shops as they make their way through the various Nashville Boogie special event areas.
Music City Jazz Festival
Get your fill of fly jazz with hip cats like David Sanborn, Ken Ford, Maysa, and Bizz & Everyday People at the Music City Jazz Festival, May 25-27. This outdoor concert is three days of soaking in smooth music and the sweet summer atmosphere. Certainly not to be missed by any jazz fanatic.
CMA Music Festival
Undoubtedly one of the hottest events in town is the CMA Music Festival, June 8-11. With big-time names like Blake Shelton, Brad Paisley, Keith Urban, Kenny Rogers, Lady Antebellum, Little Big Town, Rascal Flatts and Miranda Lambert gracing the stage, this music festival is a country music lover’s dream.
“We focus on programming unforgettable performances on every stage and thank our returning partners for helping us to do that, while also offering unique activities and experiences for fans,” said CMA Chief Executive Officer Sarah Trahern in a recent press release. Concertgoers can also get their country celeb fix at Fan Fair X where there are three live music stages, artist interactions, celebrity Q&A sessions, autographs, shopping, games, crafts and more.
Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival
On the same dates as the CMA Music Festival (June 8-11)—because why not?—you can rock out at the Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival in Manchester, only an hour outside Nashville. If you like mind-blowing entertainment, film viewings, costume parties, exercise, games, food and camping with thousands of like-minded individuals, Bonnaroo is sure to be one of the most epic concerts of a lifetime.
More than 100 artists, including renowned bands U2, Red Hot Chili Peppers, The Weeknd, Lorde, and Chance the Rapper, will grace the stages, as will side-splitting comedians such as Natasha Leggero, Moshe Kasher, Kyle Kinane and Hannibal Buress.
Since its 2002 inception, Bonnaroo just keeps getting better – and smelling better. There are now 200 permanent toilets, hundreds of permanent shower stalls, and water filling stations in its temporary community. The 80,000 or so Bonnaroovians who attend each year won’t have to stay dingy during the four-day festival.
